The idea of planting seeds...seeds of hope...that there are different strategies and ways of dealing with this new paradigm that is parenthood - early on, building on strengths and new skills. Read MoreI have been running new mothers groups for 16 years and have heard countless stories and experiences and struggles during this period. This course nails it! I loved the incredible details and background knowledge and evidence that was presented. I have so much more now that I can offer my new families and will work on ways to integrate these into my calm parenting groups - particularly partners! Brilliant! I recommend this training to any health professionals in this field. Thank you Elly!
Read LessAs a relationship counselor and parent educator for over 20 years, I saw too many couples who had fallen into the gap between pregnancy and parenting.
They blamed each other, lost the support of their partner, confidence in themselves as parents and became increasingly disconnected as a couple because they were unprepared for the normal twists and turns of early parenthood.
You may already know how this can lead to high rates of anxiety, depression and relationship distress. We live in a world where 92% of parents report increased conflict in their first year of family and 67% a decline in relationship satisfaction in the first three. Over one in seven mamas and one in ten dads suffer from a perinatal mood disorder such as anxiety or depression. A traumatic birth experience increases their risk.
Needless to say, this is not a good start for our families.
In the days of the village, elders and more experienced parents guided newborn ones through the parenthood rite of passage. Becoming a parent is more complicated and challenging in our modern day world so more guidance is needed...
And yet it’s nobody’s role to be a guide. Until now. Thank you for taking the leap of faith and doing Level I of our Becoming Us training. I hope you'll continue on your learning journey and do more of this meaningful, purposeful, sometimes challenging, but incredibly beautiful Becoming Us work.
